Exclamation Prenatal classes or drop in for pregnant ladies

I read this article online recently about teaching prenatal ladies. Opinion is divided about letting pregnant women into drop in classes, some teachers won't allow it and suggest they join a prenatal class, others are less strict.

I had a lady come in the other day who hadn't done much yoga and I did let her do the class. I made her do poses different to everyone everyone else and I spoke to her afterwards about it and she admitted that she felt embarressed and singled out.

I felt terrible. Should I have let her practise?

I would be interested in knowing if any teachers out there have a view?

well I'm not a teacher, but have been pregnant. If it was me, I wouldn't want to be singled out either and would have preferred to have been told about a prenatal class (or you tell up front and give her the option). Thats what i think.

This is a hard one, because personally if someone had made their way to my class I'd hate to turn them away. I'd probably have done the same thing - told them that it was a general class and that i'd have to modify their poses so that they were safe.

Did you put her somewhere prominent in the class? I'd probably place her somewhere where she felt she wasn't in view of everyone but near to me so I could keep an eye on her. Its difficult for me to comment on this as I'm not sure how your class is set up.

I think it's really good that you spoke to her afterwards about her concerns. Often if someone is upset the best way to deal with it is to say sorry - and to ask her to come back and experience a prenatal class and see how she likes it. Not sure if that helps??
