Default Pregnancy Yoga

I've been doing yoga for about a year and have just found out that I'm pregnant. I did a really strong class last week and I didn't feel very good after it (I didn't know I was pregnant then).

Pleae can anyone give me any advice about doing yoga in the first trimester. Could I have halmed the baby by this strong class?

My suggestion would be to listen to your body in the frist trimester (it's not really advised to continue till 2nd trimester). However, if you've been doing yoga for a while and you'd like to continue, just go gently. If you feel like it's too much or you don't feel well then stop.

Definitely make sure that your teacher is fully aware of how you are feeling and that you're pregnant. Some teachers won't teach anyone in their first trimester. If you go regularly and your teacher knows you and your practise then they might think it's all right for you to practise. Really it's up to you and how you feel.

The first time I started yoga I hadn't been doing it for long and I fell pregnant. My doc advised me to keep doing exercise (like walking and swimming) but when I mentioned that I had just started yoga he advised me not to do any for the first 3 months (even if I wanted to I wouldn't have been able to, I was so sick!).

Thanks for this (actually I also spoke to my doctor and he said the same). He advised me to stop for first 3 months, but recommended I get into it again if I felt OK after that. He said yoga is great to do during pregnancy and the stretching and breathing would be good for me and my baby.
