ouch. Jen, i just tried it the way i think you described, and you may indeed be going crosseyed. i think one of the functions/benefits of the third eye is to relieve and release the physical eyes from their hard labour. let it be effortless. all that aching wants to be flowing out and away.
it might be easier to not take the ajna too literally at least in terms of its physical location. try imagining it projecting out on a noodly appendage (which "in fact" it is) to a single fuzzy point on the horizon. or meditating on a semi-distant candle flame before closing your eyes -- that can do it. focus gently. EDIT: no, that hasn't captured it at all. somebody else wanna have a go... Last edited by diddiddiddle : 01-20-2008 at 10:08 AM. |

I'm loving your 'noodly appendage' dididd
, and I agree with you in terms of not trying so hard. Jen rather than physically looking up to your 3rd eye try and 'imagine' that area instead. Sometimes it helps me to try and imagine a gentle yellow or white light or a flame infront of me (still with my eyes still closed) that works for me. I tried doing it the way you are doing it Jen, and when I actively look up with my eyes, thats when they felt a bit strained (which is what might bring on your headache feeling...?) Sadly I don't think it's an exact science - try it a few different ways and see if they work for you.

I imagine each chakra as an energy around a particularly area in the body, rather than something to look at. See if it helps to imagine a soft warm energy around your face, directly in front of you when you have your eyes closed. As you concentrate on it it gets warmer and warmer, spreading white light all over your entire body.
