Default Throat chakra

Can anyone tell me a bit more about this chakra - what it is supposed to represent and how it works? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I love the beautiful Vishuddhi chakra, whose colour is a clear bright turquoise blue!

My yoga teacher taught us that sound, hearing and speaking are all intertwined with its element - ether. The Sanskrit word Vi (with) and Shuddhi (purity) hints at the magic of the throat chakra as a detoxification point, a centre for the alchemical purification of psychic energies, a place where psychic toxins are distilled and transmuted.

An alternative name is Bharati Sthana Chakra (where the Godess of Speech - Bharati - stands; i.e. at the throat).

When Vishuddhi chakra is open we are creative, we speak our truth, we are compassionate listeners, hear with perception and we too are heard.

Physically Vishuddhi chakra corresponds to the thyroid and parathyroid glands of the endocrine system. Halasana (plough pose), Sarvangha asana (shoulder stand), followed by Matsayasana (fish pose) is an excellent sequence for opening Vishuddhi chakra. Kirtan chanting is wonderful too, combining sound, vibration, melody, harmony, and Sanskrit mantras.

Whenever I get a sore throat or another very obvious blockage in the 5th chakra area, I wear a blue scarf around my neck to help bringing balance again. I don't know whether modern scientists would support this theory , but I find it helps.

I found this beautiful prayer or affirmation about the Throat Chakra:

Help us to develop responsibility.
May universal truth impregnate causal action
so that the voice of humanity may find true harmony
with the voice of the earth

Visuddha chakra relates to the whole range of blues - from the palest to the darkest. The most common one recommended for healing is deep lapis lazuli blue. Turquoises and aquamarines are particuarly valuable in strengthening the ability to commnicate the large groups or audiences.

If you have a throat infection - silver is strengthening to the throat chakra and should always be visualized when throat infections occur. As Shanti says above, all these colours affect the thyroids and parathyroids.
