Kundalini Rising:
Exploring the Energy of Awakening
Barbara Harris Whitfield
It is with immense gratitude that I read this new anthology recently released by Sounds True Publishing. First, my husband Charles Whitfield and that i are contributors. We’re grateful to had been included with this glorious list of specialists who together explain something that until recently has been unexplainable. Within the East it’s called “Kundalini.” Here within the West, Christians call it “The Holy Spirit,” in Hebrew it’s Ruach ha Kadosh. I’m sure shall we find it in almost every religion. Now Western Science has gotten interested too. This anthology contains essays by published researchers and scientists who’re at the innovative of this new field.
My opening to the Kundalini process began in 1975 after a profound near-death experience. I call it a process since it continued, and continues to these days, sometimes blatant but mostly subtle.
My second reason behind gratitude to Sounds True and this list of contributors is that collectively we make quite a few sense. We collect such a lot of different disciplines that create a brand new gestalt for a human/spiritual mechanism that earlier has remained hidden.
This energy, this mechanism looks and feels crazy at first for someone like me who years ago had never heard of it and couldn’t understand why or what was happening. Now, after reading lots of the essays on this book even i’ve got a brand new understanding that i will almost articulate. We humans have a non secular nature that’s waiting to be aroused, waiting to wake us as much as a much bigger reality then we’ve got perceived until the unfolding of Kundalini.
Babies have this awareness but we (not less than within the Western world) “reason” it out of them by the point they grow up (hopefully it’s changing. My new book The Natural Soul is all about this).. Then through a non secular experience like an NDE, or other mystical experience, or through a 12 Step Program (remember the 12th Step), or a workshop, spiritual talk, psychotherapy–this energy is aroused and we’re on our solution to a complete new way of experiencing our reality – and it’s not what the media is telling us is critical! And that’s where the rub is! We will’t be mind controlled anymore by the media or our religion (if it’s that form of religion – not all religions are about control but I bet if Jesus came here today to go to us he would shake his head and say, “I didn’t mean in order to get so organized. I meant with a view to be like me.)
Jesus had an awakened Kundalini. He knew who he was. He knew where he came from and he was conversant in and connected to his Father, Mother, God. So are we after we patiently work with this mechanism.

It is a highly readable book. Some books on yoga and meditation use such a lot of Eastern terms i will’t stay alongside of what they’re talking about, though I’ve meditated myself for two decades or so now.
When it does use terminology, it explains it well, although I felt love it may have benefited from a number of graphics, as an example when talking about energy pathways and the chakras. i believe most readers will be privy to these items, but that might be helpful especially when the Eastern terms are used.
I appreciated the section on Kundalini pathology, but was sad that it didn’t delve deeply into Kundalini rashes. Essentially, the pathologies discussed were so severe that it almost made me think “OMG, why meditate if it could cause equivalent to THIS?” I felt the book was very cautionary that opening this much energy shall be dangerous. Take it from me, it is! There are excellent, excellent sections on psychological manifestations and disturbances which can include it.
I was surprised that it only touched upon the rashes. There’s maybe 3 sentences in there, with out a real tips for resolving this problem.
There’s a good meditation discussed inside the book – quite effective. (The ball of sunshine from the lotus one.) i might have liked several MORE examples of excellent guided meditations, and a few information on effective grounding when one has way over energy.
I also liked that the book gives caution to the seeker who specializes in the psychic manifestations. They honestly is really a stumbling block, in my experience.
It is easily definitely worth the read. I’d just have liked it better if it had covered these items better and given me a couple of visuals, even just black and white plates of energy pathways would were nice.
