Default New Year New Butt :)

I have decided to get my butt into gear now that it's January, I feel that Ive been eating and drinking since December (OK maybe November) and I've got to so something about my rear end!

I was all into yoga and then with all the festive lunches and dinners I've had a bit of a blow out and not been back for ages. I really need to get back in shape.

Are there any exercises that are good for le buttocks?

Yes! Squats are great for toning the rear end - lunges are good too. Any poses where you are having to engage your glutes (backbends, balance poses, inversions particularly).

Helen I couldn't resist, I just loved the title of this thread.

Wouldn't that be great? Each year you could just take off and park your current mammmmolluuuucho butt and just leave it (where it belongs) in the corner to fester, and pick up your new, streamlined one. A small, pert, perfect yoga butt and start your year the way you mean to go on ...sigh...can I wake up yet?

Smile The Buggaluggs Bum Thief

There's a great (children's) book by Tim Winton called "the Buggaluggs Bum Thief" all about a town where everyone has their bums stolen.

Sounds trashy but it's the most wonderful, charming and hilarious book. It uses just this idea you talk about, especially when the whole township finds their missing bums and are too embarrassed to pick their own one, preferring to grab the smallest and neatest ones first, but all then find these uncomfortable and just wrong so under darkness, they all agree to swap back to their own shabby but comfortable one.

Got to read it to make sense of this thread. Honest. You'll laugh till you cry.
T/boy

PS it's been my kids' fave book for years, and mine too.

LOL this is a great idea. Swap the old one for a new one without having to do any work for it, I like it!

For mortals who can't bum swap there are a few good exercises you can do that don't just involve yoga classes. Walk everywhere!! (particularly up stairs, I know, I know, but it works!). There is a really good pose which used to get me in shape for skiing that is good for 'le buttocks'. Lean against a wall with your back and then slide down so that your knees are bent and 90 degrees to the floor (like you're sitting in a chair with your back against the wall). Do that for 20 seconds or so and work it up from there. It's pretty strong but man, does it work!
