I first examine the 5 Tibetan rites about 2 years ago and tried to do them each day. Like almost all people i locate it hard to do exercises from a book. i want someone to do them with me. This DVD is ideal. It begins with a basic spinal set ” rise and spine” and ends with Sat Kriya (my favorite) The second one set is the 5 Tibetan rites. Albeit in reverse order than what’s written within the books. But that’s Ok because Ravi’s exercise order seems to work better for the spine and compliments set 1. He also adds a kundalini spin to the camel exercise. The unique doesn’t include bowing forward and camel and breath of fireside. Ravi’s version is such a lot better. The magic number for the rites is 21 reps. Ana doesn’t count, but when you might want to track your progress which you could mentally count your reps. The books say so you might work as much as 21 and never go over that number as you won’t derive any longer benefits by increasing the reps over 21. Whatever! It really works and it feels great! Like it Like it! The meditation on the end of set 2 is to feel you pulse for your finger tips and say sat nam to every pulse. This requireds lots concentration that it takes you to a different plane. Thanks Ravi and Ana.

I always do extensive research before identifying a purchase order and once I decided to aim a yoga DVD I stuck with my program. I asked around, I read all of the reviews (though I don’t have much faith in many of the reviews obtainable), I surfed the net and checked out many many clips . My criteria for an ideal beginner Yoga DVD were:

a)The trainer must be a true yoga master with a long time of expertise – no ex-actresses or aerobic instructors.

b) little need for props, ie. ropes, balls, blocks, blankets etc…

c) short sets ( as a beginner i’ll not be capable of do more then half-hour at a stretch. I also do other fitness and need a brief yoga routine as an add-on)

d) preferrably no cliche new age sounds which make me cringe – birds chirping, bells, oceans. Something a litlle more urban and edgy will be nice.

e) finally, i used to be searching for a true yoga workout. i needed to experience yoga at its rawest i.e., no fluff, no excessive talking firstly. I just desired to manage to get right to a workout that will stretch, strengthen, relax and encourage me

And it truly is exactly what I got with Ravi Singh & Ana Brett’s Kundalini Yoga for Beginners & Beyond. It’s a truly great program! i really happened to locate it at my library, tried it and paused it halfway while I ordered from Amazon. I knew this was the only:Two 25 minute sets from 2 very long time yogis. Ravi Singh has been teaching 30 plus years. Ms Brett has been doing it since childhood.

The way it’s sequenced really builds in a method that open your body very gradually and that i think it’s excellent for somebody trying to find an entire, gentle yet thorough, yoga practice. Not just is that this a fully doable enjoyable workout for a newcomer to yoga like myself but i believe here’s one i will still continue to do irrespective of how far I advance. In other words: this one is a classic.

I watch for trying other of the Ravi & Ana workouts.

…and take some of the other advice with a grain of salt.

The woman who wrote this book was one of Yogi Bhajan’s earliest students – I believe that she is in her sixties or seventies. I mention this because I would advise anyone to read this book the same way they take advice from an older person of a different generation…

I started reading the book in 1999, after I had done a little bit of Kundalini – and I will admit that I got turned off – by the advice to take cold showers, some of Yogi Bhjan’s quotes about women etc., etc. Then I promptly quit doing yoga, bought a house (a fixer-upper) and got a stressful job. Almost exactly one year later I realized that I needed to calm my mind and my body because I was a wreck. I took a few Kundalini classes, but really needed something that I could practice at home. So I dug out this book – and went straight to the exercises. Flow of Eternal power presents the exercises in sets which you can make last from 20 minutes to an hour and a half. I bought a digital kitchen timer so that I could hold the poses for a the prescribed period of time and off I went. Well, THE KUNDALINI EXERCISES MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE AND I STARTED TO FEEL 100% BETTER.

So, my advice is take what is offered and use it to your benefit – leave out what you don’t feel comfortable with (actually the cold showers can be pretty invigorating and the advice about caring for oneself is pretty cool too).

I ordered this video because it was the number one rated yoga dvd on Amazon. I’m a beginner and thought this would be an excellent introduction to an amazing yoga experience.

First – the young lady (Anna?) demonstrates proper form and breathing very well, BUT a I felt like a slacker not keeping up with her.

I overdid it, felt sick to my stomach and dizzy and put the tape away for a while. Then, I did a little research. Found out what could be causing the nausea:

1. I shouldn’t by trying to keep up with Anna. The moves may look very simple, but I need to take it slower.

2. Some the the moves (twisting) are focusing on cleansing and massaging inner organs that have been sitting idle full of toxins for a long time.

3. Incorrect breathing can also cause nausea.

I did some research, learned how to practice the long breaths. I’m also going to stop trying to keep up with Anna and move at my own relaxed pace and focus on the breath and proper form.

Other things I learned are:

1. Not to eat an hour before, but hydrate well.

2. Drink water after the workout to help get rid of the toxins that have been released during the workout.

MUCH better experience.

Kundalini Rising:

Exploring the Energy of Awakening

Barbara Harris Whitfield

It is with immense gratitude that I read this new anthology recently released by Sounds True Publishing. First, my husband Charles Whitfield and that i are contributors. We’re grateful to had been included with this glorious list of specialists who together explain something that until recently has been unexplainable. Within the East it’s called “Kundalini.” Here within the West, Christians call it “The Holy Spirit,” in Hebrew it’s Ruach ha Kadosh. I’m sure shall we find it in almost every religion. Now Western Science has gotten interested too. This anthology contains essays by published researchers and scientists who’re at the innovative of this new field.

My opening to the Kundalini process began in 1975 after a profound near-death experience. I call it a process since it continued, and continues to these days, sometimes blatant but mostly subtle.

My second reason behind gratitude to Sounds True and this list of contributors is that collectively we make quite a few sense. We collect such a lot of different disciplines that create a brand new gestalt for a human/spiritual mechanism that earlier has remained hidden.

This energy, this mechanism looks and feels crazy at first for someone like me who years ago had never heard of it and couldn’t understand why or what was happening. Now, after reading lots of the essays on this book even i’ve got a brand new understanding that i will almost articulate. We humans have a non secular nature that’s waiting to be aroused, waiting to wake us as much as a much bigger reality then we’ve got perceived until the unfolding of Kundalini.

Babies have this awareness but we (not less than within the Western world) “reason” it out of them by the point they grow up (hopefully it’s changing. My new book The Natural Soul is all about this).. Then through a non secular experience like an NDE, or other mystical experience, or through a 12 Step Program (remember the 12th Step), or a workshop, spiritual talk, psychotherapy–this energy is aroused and we’re on our solution to a complete new way of experiencing our reality – and it’s not what the media is telling us is critical! And that’s where the rub is! We will’t be mind controlled anymore by the media or our religion (if it’s that form of religion – not all religions are about control but I bet if Jesus came here today to go to us he would shake his head and say, “I didn’t mean in order to get so organized. I meant with a view to be like me.)

Jesus had an awakened Kundalini. He knew who he was. He knew where he came from and he was conversant in and connected to his Father, Mother, God. So are we after we patiently work with this mechanism.

Kristi G., mom of Sage said:

It is a highly readable book. Some books on yoga and meditation use such a lot of Eastern terms i will’t stay alongside of what they’re talking about, though I’ve meditated myself for two decades or so now.

When it does use terminology, it explains it well, although I felt love it may have benefited from a number of graphics, as an example when talking about energy pathways and the chakras. i believe most readers will be privy to these items, but that might be helpful especially when the Eastern terms are used.

I appreciated the section on Kundalini pathology, but was sad that it didn’t delve deeply into Kundalini rashes. Essentially, the pathologies discussed were so severe that it almost made me think “OMG, why meditate if it could cause equivalent to THIS?” I felt the book was very cautionary that opening this much energy shall be dangerous. Take it from me, it is! There are excellent, excellent sections on psychological manifestations and disturbances which can include it.

I was surprised that it only touched upon the rashes. There’s maybe 3 sentences in there, with out a real tips for resolving this problem.

There’s a good meditation discussed inside the book – quite effective. (The ball of sunshine from the lotus one.) i might have liked several MORE examples of excellent guided meditations, and a few information on effective grounding when one has way over energy.

I also liked that the book gives caution to the seeker who specializes in the psychic manifestations. They honestly is really a stumbling block, in my experience.

It is easily definitely worth the read. I’d just have liked it better if it had covered these items better and given me a couple of visuals, even just black and white plates of energy pathways would were nice.

This DVD has been a life saver! i’ve got a some family issues and stress at work that experience literally caused me to loose sleep and be tense during the day. I even have tried sleeping pills, but I don’t just like the unwanted side effects. This DVD has helped me get an excellent night sleep again. It’s so simple but effective. I only wish i attempted this years ago and that i could get all those hours of sleep back. i’ve begun doing the morning workouts besides and my overall calm in the course of the day has been greatly enhanced. i’m giving this DVD to several people for X-mas!

I was recently diagnosed with advanced osteoporosis. I am 54 with the bones of an 85 year old. I was at first shocked followed by depression, frustration and despair. I bought a stack of books on osteoporosis, all informative and valuable, but it is this one that gently turned me around, opened my heart and inspired me out of the depth of my depression. Linda Sparrowe writes beautifully and yet with an authority that makes me somehow trust her to guide me back into a yoga practice to help myself heal and strengthen my weakened bones. She has helped heal my fragile heart as well as my fragile bones. I felt I must write this review and help it get the 5 stars it so richly deserves. Thank you, Linda, for helping me so much with your sensitive, encouraging book.

This DVD by renowned yoga instructor Barbara Benagh is similar in format to her previous DVD, Yoga for Stress Relief. However, whereas the latter offers practices for different conditions (back pain, headaches, digestive issues, etc.), in the AM/PM DVD, Barbara offers practices designed for morning or evening. These practices, which are slow-moving and quite gentle overall, range in length from 15 to 45 minutes, making it easy to fit yoga into even your busiest days. Barbara frequently uses props: in addition to a yoga mat, I would recommend that you have at least one blanket on hand (preferably 2-3), with pillows and an eye bag being optional.

A breakdown of the DVD is listed below. The headings are the items found on the main menu, and the bullets indicate submenu items (the times for each practice are given as they appear on-screen). I’ve included brief notes describing each of the practices.

Discussion of Meditation by HH The Dalai Lama

AM Routines

*Get Up and Go (15m)–a wonderful flow of upper back openers, including down dog, quarter dog, and cobra

*Sun Salutation Centering (15m)–a single slow lunge salutation combined with seated forward bends

*Breath Work (30m)–a gentle, all-lying/seated practice that includes twists, supported poses, and seated meditation; my favorite!

*Gentle Wake Up (35m)–consists almost entirely of reclined postures plus two seated twists; would be a nice evening practice

*Extended Morning (45m)–a more active practice that begins on the floor but then moves to standing for side stretch, tree, triangle, side angle, and warrior 1; returns to the floor for relaxing poses

*Wake Up the Spine (35m)–begins with the above sun salutation, moves through the same standing series as Ext Morning, and finishes on the floor with reclined poses, seated forward bends, and twists

PM Routines

*Short Rest (10m)–this brief practice offers a reclined twist, pursed lip breathing, and legs-up-the-wall pose

*Breath Work (20m)–starts with a shoulder stretch and seated twist, then moves on to seated meditation, breath work, and savasana

*Unwinding Muscle Tension (30m)–this nice practice features a variety of twisting postures in reclined, seated, and standing positions

*Good Nights Sleep (25m)–another simple practice with crocodile pose, pursed lip breathing, seated meditation, and reclined postures

*Energizing Evening (40m)–this more active practice opens with the above sun salutation followed by a wide-legged standing hamstring twist, then alternates between seated poses (half lord of the fishes, open half lotus) and reclined postures (reclined leg stretch, modified bridge, reclined twist), finishing with legs-up-the-wall

Credits

As in her previous videos, Barbara is practicing alone against the backdrop of a beautiful beach at Half Moon Bay Resort in Antigua. This DVD does feature some of the same posture sequences as in Barbara’s prior Yoga for Stress Relief, but the footage appears to be new. Also, because all of the programs are generally gentle and relaxing, I find the AM vs. PM practices fairly interchangeable for day or night. Overall, this is an excellent yoga DVD well-suited to a wide range of practitioners, from those fairly new to yoga to more experienced yoginis like myself–definitely recommended.

One of them is meditation. When I tried it a few years ago, it was clear my life improved in many different ways. Wanting to try it once more and to adopt it as part of my life, I was looking for a book as free of esoterism, cults, new-age fads and the like as possible. Although this is somewhat a new-age book, it fulfilled my basic expectations. It presents an (although not detailed, this is an introduction book) overview of various kinds of meditations (western, eastern, modern, traditional). It is a practice-oriented book, after each topic you’ll find a simple or simplified exercise. Lots of quotations, not the usual “after the night the sun rises,” but well chosen paragraphs that illustrate the topics being explained. No guru is in charge here, you don’t have to follow rules and you are free to choose the meditation that best suits you. The language is plain and the layout makes it quite comfortable to read. I almost quit reading it when the author talked about the doubts that may arise about the practice of meditation in a very critical way, like we were supposed to believe (=have faith) in his words. He must have forgotten that later on, he quotes a great master saying that doubts are important and should not be disregarded in the learning process. Other than that, I feel safer now to choose what kind of meditation I want to study and practice, no longer lost in a jungle of buzzwords.

I’m not the realm’s best fitness person, but this video has been great. i bought a belly dancing video up to now with different instructors, which I enjoyed, but I enjoyed this one rather more.

I really appreciated Amira explaining why learning the specific moves were great for a girl’s body often and to aid the girl’s body focus on pregnancy in addition to childbirth.

The moves are simple enough and explained well enough that even someone who hasn’t ever exercised could still do them.

After doing this video, I felt worked out, but not drenched in sweat. That is a great video!

This is a good workout. I think Amira does a great job of creating a calm and soothing workout for mom’s to be. I did all three sections and didn’t break a sweat. I think if you want a good stretch type of video this is for you but this video lacks intensity and is not really a work out.

I did like her insight on how the western world is the only place where women lay down to give birth and due to all the sitting and driving we do most of out muscles needed for childbirth are stiff. This video aims at giving you more flexibility and preparing you for child birth which was great.

Would definitely recommend you buy as an add on video to a more rigorous work-out.

Wish I could have rated this 0 stars. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE, and did I mention its
H O R R I B L E !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 2 other Amira Mor DVDs and can attest to them being absolutely awful as well. (thankfully they were a gift from somebody, so I didn’t waste my own money on them)

This woman CAN NOT DANCE TO SAVE HER LIFE ! Her rhythm is awful, the way she dances is more like a stripper, not the art form that bellydance really should be.

Amazon carries some wonderful videos put out by Natural Journeys, such as the Veena & Neena videos, and the Rania videos. Buy those instead, you’ll be glad you did. Don’t waste your money on Amira Mor garbage.

I don’t technically have the DVD yet (it’s in transit as I post this), but, I have both routines on video.

If this is a direct transfer, it can’t help but be wonderful .

Neena and Veena have made my boring exercise maintenance into a fun and muchly-anticipated part of my week. I did these routines near daily for 3 months, and then transitioned them to once or twice a week (doing other things, also). But, during that three months I improved my flexibility (I can reach *past* my toes!), my muscle tone, and learned to pinpoint my muscle isolations.

These two workouts have a good mix of “traditional” exercise movements (squats, lunges, crunches, etc.) and movements unique to belly dance. I think the twins provide an almost flawless method to learn the movements, as the routines are slow enough that you don’t need a separate teaching segment, but, fast enough to keep you improving once you know what you’re doing. I really appreciate their teaching style. They wear snug spandex workout clothes with dainty scarves, so, you can clearly see what they’re doing. Plus, there’s two of them, so, if the camera angle is a little “off” on one, you can see what to do from looking at the other.

The arms and abs routine is dedicated to strengthening your arms, rotating through a variety of arm movements, and an almost yoga or pilates style ab workout. These seem to be a bit more general, in the sense that you’re working your full arms and shoulders for the arm routine, and most of your abdominals at the same time, for the ab routine.

The hips, buns and thighs routine is more focused on isolated movements. There’s also a good stretching section that I really like.

What’s particularly nice is that they teach you “real” belly dance movements but in the structured environment of exercise routines. So, you can enjoy these workouts if you’re looking for something a little different, or, to build up a basic collection of movements. However, if you want to learn to dance properly, you’ll have to look elsewhere. These are exercise routines, not dance lessons.

These tapes are wonderful, however the PM tape doesn’t make an effort to completely explain the poses and their objectives, the muscles you need to be feeling stretched and correct breathing techniques. You can’t watch Patricia while doing the a few of the poses unless you’re already a talented contortionist. Rodney’s AM practise was excellent for me as a beginner. It’s a good introduction to learning a conscious connection between the mind and body. It’s relaxed and plenty easier than Particia’s tape. Rodney’s easy at the eyes, too, ladies…I’d suggest one of the crucial slower paced, informative tapes akin to “Yoga for Dummies” or one which details the poses you practise as an introduction to yoga. Yoga practise has to be done safely and that specific tape provides alternative poses besides for the fewer flexible beginners. i do know it gets old to work with the beginner tapes and also you do end up fast-forwarding when you are happy with the poses, but isn’t that a great time to check out a fixed like this AM/PM practise? You don’t learn Yoga fast and this can be a great goal to like to easy methods to flow gracefully and purposefully from one pose to the following without hesitation.

Joseph C. Landon Jr. said:

Both videos included are for beginners but try to be somewhat flexible. You ought to be ready to at the very least touch your toes standing up. If not, you should use blankets, straps or blocks in the event you can’t initally stretch so far as the poses dictate. But it doesn’t matter what, you DO desire a strap for a stretching pose within the AM session. A soft carpet or mat is likewise essential. The AM yoga session is less intense of both videos and mostly involves relaxing and stretching. The PM session is longer and more demanding, with tougher stretches and poses. i am getting a touch sweaty afterwards. Both Rodney Yee (AM yoga) and Patricia Walden (PM yoga) put you secure and do a superb job of instructing you along the style. The background music is usually very calming to get you within the mood. OK, this video won’t solve all of your problems, but it surely will most likely leave you within the most relaxed state you’ve ever been. The results of performing the AM and PM yoga even a couple of times every week last for several days. I’ve found myself to be more comfortable, and no more stressed. And most significantly, i am getting at the side of my wife far better than before. All of us need that, don’t we? i will’t recommend this video set enough. Buy it now!!

I have several yoga DVDs, but since I purchased Gary Bromley’s, I’ve stopped using the others and use only this one. I do this yoga class every morning, and it is the best there is out there. The postures are for beginners but if you are a more advanced yogi and know the postures you can easily deepen and adapt them to make them more challenging (that’s what I do). The pace is perfect and the background music complements his guidance very nicely and harmoniously. His style is calm, generous and he pays a lot of attention to details, so if you are distracted he brings your attention gently back to what you’re doing, and this awareness of what is actually going on in your body and mind makes all the difference. His voice is very soothing and at the same time upbeat. It really helps me start out my day refreshed, calm and invigorated. Thank you, Gary, for producing this DVD and giving the opportunity to people from all over the world (I live in Brazil) to enjoy your delightful yoga class. Namasté.

I have always wanted to attempt natural childbirth, but couldn’t find anything I felt really prepared me or my husband. This set changed everything for us. I learned how to relax during pregnancy, delivery and after. I feel so much more confident in my ability to make important decisions for my baby and myself. I also now know how to trust my body to do what it was created for. I love this product so much, I got one for my little sister who is expecting her 5th baby, and is hoping to avoid another induction. No other childbirth class I have taken even came close to the information I have receive in the comfort and privacy of my own home. I would DEFINATLY recommend this product to a first time mom, or an experienced mother wanting to do what is best for her baby. I also loved the tips for coaches. My husband feels like he can really be a part of our next birth together, instead of a “not-so-innocent by-stander”. We both enjoyed the candor, honesty, and “this is your decision” approach. Our doctors made us feel we didn’t have many options, but now we know better, and how to talk to our doctor in a way that lets him know we need to be supported, not told what to do.

I have been using Bikram’s Beginning Yoga Class (the book alone, no instructor) and found it to be tremendously effective for improving flexibility, strength, conditioning, and energy levels. I do my best to follow the instructions to the letter and perform each pose as well as I can, and it really works.

I knew nothing about yoga before I started, so I intentionally chose this book for it’s defined program and limited set of poses, as opposed to others that have a smorgasbord of poses that I could dabble in. As other reviewers have pointed out, some of the poses are not easy, and there are many that I still probably only get 25% right because I don’t have the strength and flexibility, but the honest effort I make is paying off.

I found myself getting more and more out of shape because nagging injuries stopped me every time I tried to start an exercise program. My formerly active lifestyle was slowing way down, and I just felt bad — and felt bad about myself as a result. Bikram’s yoga has turned that around in 2 short months. I’ve lost some weight, gained a tremendous amount of flexibility, added muscle tone, and feel a lot better about my long term health outlook.

I do the full program (it takes me about an hour and 15 minutes) at least 4 times a week, usually 5 or 6. I’ll probably take a class with an instructor eventually.

Is Bikram’s yoga the best way? I don’t know. But it’s working for me.

Initial Warning: New Age Cheese Factor is present in this DVD. My boyfriend walked in on me right as Maya was encouraging me to “become the New Aquarian Person!” and he burst out laughing. I don’t mind it, being something of a low-key hippy person who talks to her plants and worries about her chakras, but although Boyfriend was interested in joining me for this work out (it does a lot of back stretching and flexing, which since he has a very tense, stiff back, looked appealing to him) he didn’t think he could make it through and keep a straight face.

His loss. Still, if being told to become “the new Aquarian Person!” or “We will now chant to strengthen the kidneys” will utterly ruin your enjoyment of a practice, you might, ah, wanna rent this one first. Just in case.

Now, on to the review proper:

This routine can be fairly intense if you’re not in shape. It’s fun, I like it very much, but it can be quite the work out considering you don’t actually *stand up* at any time. That being said, I’m not in the most phenomenal shape of my life at the moment and I can finish this practice. And I enjoy it very much indeed! It is currently part of my regular yoga rotation and I often do the warm up portion of the DVD even on days when I am not doing the full practice. It’s very dynamic: you will not hold anything but corpse pose and easy pose. And it’s all done sitting or kneeling. Props are not necessary even for We the Inflexible Yogis and Yoginis of the World, which I think would make it great for travel, although I do tend to sit on my yoga mat when I do this practice.

Kundalini yoga is very different from the other hatha yoga styles I’ve been exposed to. But it’s fun, it made my back feel FANTASTIC, the music is great, and I felt reinvigorated and centered after it was done.

I am delighted with this book. I ordered from Amazon.co.uk and recieved it very quickly.

I have all of Maya’s DVD’s and was looking forward to this book being released. I am really impressed with it. It is a good size and has 208 Pages, the photographs are beautiful…very creative and inspirational. The book contains what the title describes and the chapters are as follows:

Hello from Maya

Introduction

Be here, Now – Root chakra

Detox and destress – Sacral chakra

Yes I can – Navel chakra

Love and relationships – Heart chakra

Staying youthful – Throat chakra

Children – Third Eye chakra

Finding joy – Crown chakra

The chapters are so interesting and well composed. Exercises and mantra’s are detailed and easy to follow. There is also inspirational wisdom and quotes from Masters eg Yogi Bhajan. Maya also includes some recipes that will benefit in different ways.

The pages are in the colour of the chakra’s and I think it is a nice touch as it looks nice but it is also practical as you can easily choose the chakra that you would like to work with. At the beginning of each chakra chapter there is a reference to the chakra:

Governs

Shadow emotions

Colour

Symbol

Element

I am so glad that I purchased this book and can highly recommend it to you and hope that you benefit from it as I know I will. Sat Nam x

i’ve several Rodney Yee DVDs and it’s one in all my favorites. i’m 52 years old and, although i’ve always exercised and been active, i have not been very flexible. This one is optimal for warming up your body and challenging it merely enough so you safely increase your flexiblility. i’ve been doing yoga videos for over 4 years starting with Rodney’s AM/PM. I even have recommended Rodney’s ” Back Care Yoga” to my contemporaries as an excellent starting video and am now recommending this one because the next step. i really like his calm voice, the serene locations and (with this one expecially) the relaxing meditative endings.

i will be able to completely and without reservation, recommend this DVD. I be afflicted by chronic neck & shoulder tension and after I don’t do that program two or thrice every week, i’m in agony. it’s not that i am essentially the most flexible person on this planet, but after consistent use, i think “looser”. i’m also in love with Rodney’s gentle voice and careful instruction to “breathe” in your complete right places where I usually find myself holding my breath, in addition to “soft eyes” which after I first heard it found myself release my eyes which had crept up my forehead! While I understand a large number of customer’s concern that he assumes most of the positions, in the event you just watch this system a couple of times, a minimum of with this actual DVD, you have to be fine.

I love this DVD! Rodney Yee DVD’s from Gaiam have become some of my favorite practices. You really need to know a bit about yoga (like the warrior series) before you do this practice. There are no detailed instructions, so I think it would be disappointing for a beginner.

I loved the flow of this practice. Yes, the sun salutations are a bit fast, but is okay since this warms you up for the floor stretches to follow. He holds you in downward facing dog to rest, but I think the pace is perfect to warm you up quickly. It is a short workout of only 30 min., but perfect for those days when I don’t have a lot of time. You will definitely get the flexibility on the floor postures after the warm up.

I use Rodney’s “Power Yoga Total Body” which I love too, but it is 1 hour. This practice is very similar, but 1/2 the time. You really can’t go wrong on this one for on Amazon.

It is beautifully filmed in Joshua Tree which brings back memories for me of rock climbing in the 70′s…

Please see my other review on Amazon of yoga and meditation dvds.

This is not a bad yoga workout. The main reason I’m giving it two stars is for deceptive marketing.

When you start this DVD, you will notice the titles include the words “for beginners”. In the accompanying interview with Rodney Yee, he talks about this being a starter workout, for the beginner. Yet nothing on Amazon or on the outside packaging of the DVD mentions that it is for beginners.

This is very basic power yoga, with sun salutations broken down into smaller and modified bits, and a few basic modified yoga poses. I would not even call it power yoga, as there is no way anyone who has any yoga experience will even break a sweat with this one.

There are two 20 minute routines on this DVD. I bought this to have a nice short routine for days when I don’t have time for a full class, or even for 30-45 minutes of home practice. However, I don’t find it useful for this purpose. David Swenson’s “Short Forms” DVD is much better, and offers shorter routines of actual ashtanga yoga poses, in a more logical sequence.

This book is an excellent guide to astanga yoga. For beginers, or experienced practicioners.

If you’re looking for an exercise routine, you can’t do better than this.

Astanga yoga builds strength, flexiblity, stamina, discipline and mental quiet. It won’t change your life overnight. But bit by bit as you start to feel healthier, and better about your body, the way you perceive the world changes as well. But everything comes very slowly, as it should.

I think a book accompanied with this might make it much better. He does not fully explain what he is doing. I guess he expects you to watch and mimic his motions. But one can mimic and get the motions wrong because they do not understand the concepts. Along with his short explanations he does give, they are very quick and not in depth. Good thing for DVD you can pause, rewind at a much better rate than VHS. If you decide to buy this, make sure to keep it basic for the beginning: maybe have another person nearby. I almost knocked myself out trying to do those breathing exercises. Not because they are bad, but because it does put some pressure on your body and lungs that are not normal to the average person that has not done these things before.

This Facial Fitness Program is excellent. The deep wrinkles around my mouth flattened out and at times seem to disappear. The shape of my face has changed – it is no longer drooping, but has firmed up. I look younger now, than when I first started doing the exercises. Carolyn’s system is easy to learn, takes only 15 minutes a day and rescued me from looking way older then my age! I usually do the exercises in the morning – I call it my face yoga! It is like a meditation, as it centers me for the rest of the day…and makes me look better too! I highly recommend this program.

I found Carolyn to be very supportive, if you have any questions.
I’m 61 and have tried several different kinds of facial exercises. This book is absolutely the best and after only a few times I see a real difference. The exercises are clear and each shows a picture of the muscles that should be working, so you can easily self correct and then really feel it working. Compared to other books I tried, these exercises are less complicated and only take a few minutes, but yet they work much better. I think it’s because the author (as described in the book) came to this information from having an injury, so the exercises were developed based on medical info. The DVD that comes with the book is also great to get you started. I can’t recommend this book enough.

i bought the am/pm yoga for beginners duo because my gym only offers yoga three days per week. I desperately needed something for the off days, and treadmills and steppers were no the solution i used to be seeking. i’ve always been an “atheletic marshmallow”, however while always a brilliant flexible person. Yoga proved to be the happy medium in my life. It provides me with some variety of exercise and even as allows me to chill. Rodney Yee has essentially the mostsome of the most soothing voice. While I do find it troublesome that he often confuses “left” and “right” when giving directions, i attempt to remain attentive to those mistakes. i like that the am component to the tape carries gentle poses that ease one into waking up. i glance forward to rising half-hour earlier every day to do the tape! Patricia Walden’s pm session allows me to stretch out and release all of my day’s tension and stress. i need to look somewhat more time spent on down facing dog within the pm video, however is something I even have added to my routine once the video is over. i’d recommend this video set to a beginner, but i’d definitely advise that you simply watch it greater than once if you’re new to this type of exercise.

i’m 33 years old and i’ve had Rheumatoid Arthritis for five years. i used to be hesitant to aim yoga but i presumed the videos will be with a purpose to start. Then if I had any trouble i may skip certain parts without being in a category and feeling embarrassed. I saw Rodney Yee (host of A.M. Yoga) on Oprah and the sample poses he taught were simple and effective. The tapes arrived yesterday. i attempted P.M. Yoga last night and to my surprise i may do it. It was difficult but i will tell that i am going to improve. After I was finished with the tape I felt warm and relaxed. I slept great! This morning i attempted A.M. Yoga with my 5 year old son in conjunction with. Again, it was difficult but it all was manageable. There are options shown for less flexible participants and props are suggested for beginners. i’d recommend these videos to everyone trying to increase their flexibility and relaxation. The programs are challenging which tells me that there’s room for improvement.

First, I’d like to start off by saying that before ordering this tape I have never even attempted to try yoga. I am not the world’s most in-shape person, nor am I the world’s least, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect from this ‘Beginners’ set. I was quite surprised by what I was able to do, and also by what I found challenging.

It is advised that you watch the tapes at least once before attempting the exercises. While watching I thought to myself, “Wow, this has got to be the world’s easiest form of exercise ever invented. I can’t believe the hype over something so obviously simple!” I was not so quick to judge once I popped in PM yoga that evening. Patricia Walden makes the moves look simple and fluid, but they are challenging for the beginner! She starts off with a 4 minute centering series, followed by a 13 minute workout, and finally, a 3 minute guided relaxation. The tape isn’t long, so it’s easy to stay motivated when you get in and feel you may be too tired to do anything productive. The scenery is just beautiful, and the voiceover is clear, comprehensive and provides well-timed cues to the viewer. Simply fantastic before going to bed, you can really feel the stress melt away as you do the poses.

AM yoga is done by Rodney Yee. His workout, in my opinion, is not as challenging as Patricia Walden’s PM yoga program, but it still provides an unexpected challenge to the beginner. Most mornings I am too groggy and irritable to think of anything besides a good cup of tea, but I somehow managed to pop the tape into the VCR. The exercises are gentle yet effective, and although, as mentionned earlier, they may look easy the first time you view the tape, they most certainly provide a great challenge! His tape consists of 4 minutes of conscious breathing, 14 minutes workout and 2 minutes seated guided meditation. By the end of the workout you feel alive and ready to face the day. Granted, it took a few mornings for me to get the hang of doing this workout, but now I actually look forward to it (although this statement may not seem like much to most, to say I am NOT a morning person is a gross understatement. Anything that makes me look forward to the morning is truely a something remarkable!). The scenery is also beautiful and inspiring in the AM series, and the voiceover is equally clear, conscise and well-cued. Also, for those of us who enjoy a beautiful man in very little clothing, Rodney Yee has a remarkable body! Something well worth waking up to!

Over all, this yoga series is something I would likely buy as a gift to just about everyone I know. It’s gentle, effective, and you really see results. As with any exercise, one cannot expect instant results, but as you grow in tune with your body, the subtle effects of this age old exercise become more and more apparent.

I would also like to point out that I first bought these tapes with the idea of training in flexibility. I thought it’d make a great party trick to stick my feet behind my ears, or some such thing. The meditative and spiritual elements are not over emphasized, yet they most certainly are there. I have found I make more progress when my focus is less on the physical elements of yoga, and more on the mental and spiritual.

I must have 10 different Abs tapes, but this one is definitely my favorite. It serves as an excellent counterbalance to the typical crunch-type abs workout, plus has all the added benefits of yoga. The workout part of the tape is a little under 25 minutes, and part of the tape is basically ab-focused meditation (but it’s not flaky for those who are a little intimidated by yoga’s spiritual side). The rest is gentle, yet tough abs work which will be unlike anything you’ve ever done before. The best part is, it works. Your abs will feel terrific and you will feel great because you have completed some pretty challenging poses. For some reason, I don’t know if it’s true, I feel that this tape works out ab muscles that those traditional tapes just don’t get to. Maybe it’s because most of the poses are isometric, but whatever it is, I would recommend this tape to anyone curious about yoga and interested in toning their abs.

I just finished reading “7 Minutes of Magic” by Lee Holden a few days ago and it has prompted me to do a couple of things. That is a mark of a very good book, it prompts you to take action. First, I have tried the routines Holden outlines in this book, and I do agree with another review of this book that it does take longer than 7 minutes to do the routines when you are first learning them. However, that is okay, I am used to spending longer than 7 minutes each morning. I really like the routines, and I feel that by themselves for most people they will be very beneficial.

However, for me, I am incorporating Holden’s flows from this book with the morning exercises I already do that are based on teachings of Dan Millman, Pavel Tsatsouline, and other martial art/qi gong instructors I have had. Holden’s workouts fit very well with the kinds of exercise flows I’ve already been doing. (In fact, some of the same things he teaches have been in my routines) So, for me it has been invigorating to try different routines and to incorporate them into what I’ve been doing. My goal for the morning exercises is to loosen up my joints, warm up my core, especially lower back, and to energize myself for the day ahead. This is just what Holden’s routines do!

Normally my evening or after work routines incorporate aerobic exercise, weight lifting, martial art practice and a variety of other exercises. I will often do a little stretching late in the evening and a breathing or meditation session. I’ve been incorporating Holden’s PM routine into my training and enjoy it as a nice way to calm down late in the evening before retiring for the night. I’ve also looked at Holden’s other products and intend to learn more from him in the future, so yes this is a book I recommend.

The book starts out with a little about Holden’s training. I enjoyed this short chapter. As someone who has also lived in Asia to further my training, I found his story very interesting. I also liked the second chapter on East Meets West: Your Body, Mind and Spirit. It corresponded well with my own philosophies and I liked how Holden put it simply and to the point.

The next part of the book teaches the flows, or exercise series. There are several flows for the morning. Core Flow, Upper Body Flow, Lower Body Flow, Full Body Flow, Energy Flow, Breath Flow, and Mind Flow. Then the PM flows: Spinal Flow, Upper Back and Neck Flow, Lower Back Flow, Downward Flow, Seated Flow, Lying Flow, and the Joy and Gratitude Flow.

I really feel that incorporating these flows, or even modifying them if need be, will help a person have increased health, energy, and fitness. With this comes reduced stress levels and the avoidance of the illnesses that come with increased stress and inactivity of the body.

Part three of the book focuses on Living with More Vitality, and in this part Holden gives some good advice for living a more healthy lifestyle. He discusses exercise, especially walking. He has a short chapter on breathing. Chapter 7 is a short chapter on eating, not what to eat, but how to eat, especially chewing food more and eating less to lose weight and live longer. He also includes a quick chapter on drinking water. He finishes with chapters on meditation and sleep, and then throws in a bonus 7 minute routine for health and vitality.

All of the chapters are short, direct and easy to read. They do not include in depth information on the topics, but give enough to get most people started along a healthy way of living. For some, this book will act as a catalyst to send readers to further study the topics here, through more of Holden’s works or those of others on the same or similar topics.

This is a great start for many people, and following the routines will help anyone improve their health. For me and others, it is a good book of information to further our studies and incorporate new approaches into our own routines. I’m glad I bought this book and look forward to doing these routines and learning more from Holden in the future.

Get this book and DO THE ROUTINES. Your health is worth it!

I am a therapist who just recently attended a 3-day Tai Chi training sponsored by David Carradine, where all of the trainers on this video tape were present. They all turned out to be highly skilled and credentialed martial artists. After giving us awesome demonstrations of martial arts skills, and showing us how various martial arts were related to the moves on this tape, they then methodically taught us the Tai Chi moves shown on this video. The designer of this video, Arnold Tayam (who also appears on the companion video David Carradine’s Chi Kung Beginner’s Workout, which I also recommend), is on the tape. Arnold is a wonderful instructor, has a doctorate in Chi Kung/Tai Chi and teaches medical applications of these arts for a living. He has distilled the essence of Chen style Tai Chi down to an easy-to-learn routine that is expertly taught. During our training weekend, he and the other instructors told many wonderful stories of how these Tai Chi moves shown on the tape have healed and prevented many ailments. David Carradine himself taught us how the peaceful philosophy of Taoism ties in with the movements on this tape. During the tape, Carradine narrates while all the martial artists go through the movements. He not only describes the correct movements but also describes the health benefits of each exercise. The tape has five sections, a warmup, repetitive practice of the moves, a section on stillness and meditation, and then two sections that tie the individual movements into a continuous Tai Chi form, first in slow motion, and then at normal speed. This instructional format makes the moves much easier to learn than other Tai Chi videos I have used. I do a lot of computer work, which tends to accumulate tension in my body, especially upper body and shoulders, and I can verify that the movements in this tape completely relax my body in just a few minutes of practice several times a day. As a therapist, I do training seminars frequently, and I consider the teaching technique on this tape to be excellent. I learned Tai Chi from this video, and after six months of working with it every day, studying in a live training with the actual martial artists on this tape was a thrilling experience. This is not just another “celebrity video”, this is the real McCoy, a video by credentialed professionals with years of experience. This video has my highest endorsement.

i attempted this technique as a self-treatment for OCD, from which I had suffered for numerous years (about 26 years, actually), and which was getting worse. The breathing method prescribed is incredibly arduous and that i was unsure that it should work for me. Actually, to be blunt, i used to be quite skeptical that it’ll work for anyone, as i’m not a believer in any Eastern religion (or other religion) and am generally inclined to believe that some great benefits of meditation, yoga, and prefer practices are overblown, even if significant. However, i used to be desperate, and that i had read Mr. Shannahoff-Khalsa’s scientific articles, which perceived to were conducted in accordance with sound scientific protocols and to offer significant support to the hypothesis that certain sorts of breathing methods can treat OCD. i really found that the process worked — my obsessions diminished and finally went away. i don’t take any prescription medications, and that i actually don’t even practice the strategy anymore (I don’t must ). Obviously, i’m simply one person, and it’s miles possible that things would have changed for me, anyway, without or with this technique. However, nothing had worked before this except, to a point, Saint John’s Wort, which I do still take but which had never cured (merely alleviated) my obsessions. I also worked on psychological techniques I learned from Steven Phillipson’s website, which I also highly recommend. Perhaps my recovery was a consequence of 1 of those or a mixture, not of the pranayama breathing; perhaps it was merely something that may have happened on its own. But I don’t think so, and that i would urge anyone who’s suffering as I did to do this. You’ve got little or no to lose and much to realize. i actually saw results straight away.

As a patient diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Shannahoff-Khalsa’s book has offered me an unbelievable means to enhance strength, clarity, and resiliency. His emphasis on technique and careful documentation provide yoga practitioners of all levels with a smooth and steady introduction to increasing one’s powers of healing while also expanding consciousness. It might be wonderful if all health professionals and counselors utilized these how to complement their work — and even as a chief approach to healing and prevention.

Shannahoff-Khalsa has worked with researchers and practitioners to share the Kundalini practice with insight and compassion. In case you’re all for the sector of healing in any capacity — whether as a patient, psychology professional, medical student, or friend/family of a friend — it can be incredibly worthwhile to share the certainty of this book. It has helped me make enormous progress, and that i trust it could accomplish that for others.

For several decades, yoga has been a well-liked mainstream method of health conscious living, and is utilized by people with medical disorders.

Now, following a bevy of latest research studies, yoga has exploded onto the mental health scene, and clinicians and patients alike are embracing using yoga to effectively help combat psychiatric disorders.

In Kundalini Yoga Meditation, Shannahoff-Khalsa—researcher, Kundalini yoga teacher for over 30 years, and worldwide authority within the field of other therapies for psychiatric disorders—weaves scientific insights, clinical trials, case histories, and disorder-specific techniques to elucidate how the ancient science of Kundalini yoga could be a useful stand-alone or supplemental treatment for psychiatric disorders.

Written for all those within the mental health profession, the book begins by laying out a few landmark scientific studies in line with Kundalini yoga, all of that have ended in a brand new understanding of mind-body dynamics, physiological states, and ways of noninvasively altering the brain and body. Included are novel yogic concepts on rhythms of the brain, personality structure, models for the mind and consciousness, and other fundamentals to reinforce our understanding of health and disease processes.

With this scientific overview in place, Shannahoff-Khalsa goes directly to explore, chapter by chapter, how Kundalini yoga could be applied to the treatment of psychiatric disorders— including OCD and other anxiety disorders; major depressive disorders; bipolar disorders; addictive, impulse control, and eating disorders; insomnia and other sleep problems; chronic fatigue syndrome; ADHD and co-morbid disorders (conduct and oppositional defiant disorder); PTSD; and the abused and battered psyche. His work also illuminates the treatment of complex co-morbid disorder patients. Most significantly, each chapter includes the entire set of disorder-specific meditation protocols and techniques described in complete detail—64 in total. Photographs help illustrate poses for easy simulation. The general element of the book covers the appliance of Kundalini yoga for individuals, couples, and groups in therapy, and includes an epilogue that discussed the way forward for psychiatry.

Mind-body medicine is at the leading edge of current mental health research and treatment, and the introduction of this ancient technology of the mind into the equation is a huge breakthrough in our understanding of improved treatment for a large range of psychiatric disorders. Kundalini Yoga Meditation skillfully introduces this exciting new frontier, and equips psychiatrists, psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers, and other clinicians with the tools and techniques essential to incorporate yogic meditation into their practices, and convey hope and healing to their clients.

This astonishing insight and the fact that the amount of air flowing through each nostril shifts several times daily (an ultradian rhythm) was made thousands of years ago by yogic practitioners, particularly those who practiced Kundalini yoga. Over 30 years ago, David Shannahof-Khalsa studied the techniques that arose from these insights, including forced nasal-cycle breathing, and has devoted his life to the study of how nasal cycle breathing and other yogic techniques can be used to cope with some of the most recalcitrant mental health and medical problems, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD,) addictive behaviors, chronic anxiety, insomnia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CSF) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD,) among many others. The present book is the culmination of Shannahoff-Khalsa’s studies and discoveries and is must reading for all mental health practitioners, as well as primary care physicians and intelligent laypeople.

Shannahoff-Khalsa has performed an outstanding and valuable job in bridging Eastern wisdom with Western science in a book that is well written and loaded with practical and important advice.

BEAUTIFUL, BOUNTIFUL, BLISSFUL is an amazing introduction to the technology of Kundalini Yoga and meditation for expectant women. As with her powerful first book, EIGHT HUMAN TALENTS, Gurmukh presents practical information, divided into sections based on the three trimesters of pregnancy. Each section is a wealth of knowledge and insight into the choices that pregnant women and their loved ones face; specifically, subjects like breastfeeding, labor, diet, exercise, the decision of where to birth, and mothering. In the spirit of attending one of Gurmukh’s classes, the sections conclude with perfect and powerful meditation suggestions to address the emotional and spiritual needs of the new mother.

Gurmukh’s positivity and encouraging tone throughout the book and her use of real-life examples from her own experiences and those of her students make this volume very enjoyable to read and share with others. Another terrific feature of the book is the presentation of the information by trimester. This will make mothers feel organized and able to “check off” many of their concerns as they address them in a way that makes perfect sense of the baby’s development inside of them. The simple pencil illustrations in the book are a celebration of women’s pregnant bodies, and nicely demonstrate exercises and meditations.

This book is a delight to read, an attractive reference, the perfect gift for expectant mothers, and a wonderful addition to one’s own library of yoga, health, pregnancy, and parenting titles.
