Default Confused - is this normal?

In my class this week my teacher did about 20 minutes of different breathing styles which I found a bit confusing. I've been doing yoga on and off for about 2 years but this was the first time I'd really done any proper 'techniques'. He explained what to do but then didn't come round and check that we were doing it right (and I'm pretty sure I wasn't).

He asked us to feel the effects but I didn't feel anything apart from a bit of a headache. Is this normal for a beginner?

It's perfectly natural to find breathing techniques hard - particularly if you've not done them before. One of the great things I find about yoga is that we are introduced to things which we might not have heard of before, and given the opportunity to try them out! As with most things, initally it's hard, but overtime we get an appreciation of how they can help us (or not).

Don't worry if your first experience wasn't as positive as you'd have liked it to be. Perhaps you could ask your teacher to explain one or two basic techniques to you again so that you could practise them at home to feel the full effects.
