Wink Bikram poses

Namaste everyone, it's good to see a few bikram people in this section! as I have a question about bikram poses. I've not been before and I was wondering if the poses are the same as the ones in hatha like I practice. Someone said something about a sequence, but I'm not sure what that is...thanks for any help.

I think all bikram's poses come from traditional hatha yoga.

here, see for yourself

Hey Johnny thanks for attaching this sequence, I don't know much about bikram either but a question. Is this the only sequence? What about all the other yoga poses? Does bikram not do them at all?

yeah, that's the whole sequence... same sequence each and every time. you do each pose twice then move on to the next one. start and stop. start and stop.

there's a couple parts to some of the poses that aren't in the pic... like in the second one, there's 4 parts to it - to the left, to the right, backwards, then forwards...

some people don't like that kind of repitition. I like it. it really frees my mind up. I never get bored or feel unchallanged either, because it's so hard to 'master' the whole sequence.

I can't really explain how it doesn't get boring. I guess I just get so in the moment... lost in the moment.... that I don't really want anything more.

to insert a pic like that, which is linked from another web site, type this in but without the "&" [img&]websitegoeshere[/img&]

Hummm, so what happens if you're a beginner (like me) and then you're in the sequence but can't keep up, or does everyone do it at their own time?

Working with a sequence is really interesting. I have an ashtanga practice which I love, but you know, I don't know about you guys, but I somtimes I get on the mat and I really have to make myself do the sequence!! I just know I've got all this to go and the thought sometimes just freaks me out!

Once I'm into it I love it, but can anyone relate???

hey diddle - that image won't link for me either for some reason.

what bikram beginers - well, what all Bikram yogis do- is just get into the pose as deep as you can before it's time to move on. and you'll be ready to move on by the time it's time to move on.

so, like, say on number 5. some people just grab their knee the whole time.

some people are able to kick their foot out, but they keep their elbows extended.

some people are able to do it like in the picture.

some people are able to go ahead and touch their forehead to their knees (like me )

some people are able to touch their forehead to their knees, then let go of their foot and their leg just magically stays up in the air!

those people are nuts!

bendy lady, I always thought of that as relating to momentum. when you're at rest, it takes a lot to get going. but then once you get going, it's easy to keep going.

I also think it's weird how I can't get going on my own at home, but once I get to the studio and everyone is there to do yoga, it's no problem getting started!

maybe more people = more stregnth to overcome the inertia

I just try to focus on the pose at hand and stay in the moment. like, when I'm in standing bow, if I think about having to do triangle in a few minutes, I'll freak out.

but if I just maintain control of my breath and don't think about triangle until it is time to be in triangle, then I'm fine.
